(which AFAIK is an undocumented feature).
The manufacturer's description of this feature is here:
http://www.sbig.com/sbwhtmls/app_notes.htm
Click on the link named:
"Version 4 ROM Upgrade To The ST-4 - User Instructions"
for a description of the new functions of Software 4.
There they say:
"One other feature is also available. If you interrupt tracking and wish to return the guide star to the same pixel location again hold down the MODE key and press TRACK. When you see the first track error displayed release the mode key. The ST-4 will drive the telescope back to the previous position over the next few cycles."
and more below (capitals from the original...)
"MODE: HOLD DOWN MODE KEY THEN PRESS TRACK TO RETURN GUIDE STAR TO PREVIOUS POSITION."
It's also clear, that this feature is not available with earlier versions of the software.
I used it very often, it always worked very well.
It's my "normal" way of operation if the brightness of the guiding star
decreases for some reasons, but I want to continue shooting.
BTW this documentation was included, when I purchased my ST4 (in 1995..?).
So I would not call it an undocumented feature <g>
