Um. Acquiring the assets of Celestron would be a (the!) major coup for
Meade. Don't know much about the company or it's management, it's presently
privately held by Tasco; no public info on its management but it seems that
Mr. Lupica heads a management group bidding for Celestron's assets. This
isn't a matter of being "PO'ed with Meade". It's a matter of survival.
(1)The jobs of these guys, and maybe something they really believe in...
(2) potential or real falloff of sales resulting from public perception
that Celestron is no longer viable because of Tasco's problems.
The purpose of the message is to preserve sales/consumer confidence in the
company...very much in jeopardy if the public perceives that C's products,
and especially support might disappear.
I'd hate to see any shrinkage in competition in this tiny industry which
has made astronomy so much more accessible to the general public in the
last few years.
