ok, I'll try a conversion later today when my machine is busy
and I've a little spare time. The problem is that the exposure 
is in "counts per second", i.e. most of the pixel values are 
between 0 and 1. Thus a simple 16 bit conversion will yield a mainly
black image. I'll have to stretch it before.
