Thanks to all who replied to my earlier
post.
I don't think it's the mount (It's an Aim Controls
EQ2) as I had previously had it tracking with small guide errors
(A2
A3 A4 etc on RA axis only) but without a camera
attached. This was in getting to know the ST4.
As soon as I attached my camera, I started getting
the A8's and 9's as well as AE's. (Is this one of
the laws of astrophotography - put a camera on your
telescope and things go wrong!!)
Could this have just been bad seeing - (I'm not
sure what to look for with an ST4 and bad seeing) or as Bert suggested,
high cirrus cloud that I was unaware of.
The A8's were on both axes and I know I'm fairly
close to alignment (no drift in an illuminated reticle eyepiece
for about 7 - 8 minutes.
My Ota is a 12 inch F4 newtonian (48 inch focal
length with a guidescope at about 34 inches focal length.
