RE: [APML] Meade Schmidts

John, they were expensive if I remember and the speed was much slower. Ive
never actually seen one, but I did buy the next best thing, a Meade 622, a
6" f/3.6 schmidt newtonian. It is called "Comettracker" on the side in big
bold letters, and they were so well made that meade coulndt afford to make
them after a year or so. I got mine in mint condition many years ago on
astromart. havent seen one for sale since. My web page has a number of
early - ie two years ago - shots with the ST237 and some film shots with it.
For 35mm, it was sharp to about 80 percent to the edge. Celestron made a
comet type scope of this type during halley days, but it was vastly
inferior.

With all this talk of Schmidting, something buried deep in the back of my
mind popped up. Does anyone remember the old Meade 4" f2.5 Schmidt camera
from the 80's? I remember the Meade posters at the local scope dealer
showing a big picture of M31, on hypered tech pan for about 90 minutes. Did
Meade actually produce any, or did they suffer the same fate as the first
16" SCT they "produced"? I haven't ever seen one, touched one or seen any
images on the web taken with one and was wondering if anyone is familiar
with them. I got the 5.5", 8" - just need a 4" to complete the set.:-)
