Re: [[APML] ST4 Problem]

Scott,
I use the ST-4 on my G-11 and have to set the Calibration of the C1 and C2
to 20 to get it to move about 10 units in the x and y directions. Have you
tried this?

Jeff

Ok, so now I'm frustrated and feeling stupid! I've just spent the last 2 1/2
hours trying to get my ST4 to calibrate, but kept getting E1 and E2 errors. I
noticed that on the first "movement", that there was no movement. Thinking
that
perhaps I'd tightened the worm gear a bit when I just cleaned and lubed my
mount
(G11) I spent time in the dark playing with allen wrenches, trying to adjust
it.
No luck! Then I thought about balance, and started everything over again. To
make this long story short, I finally tried to move the scope in the "non
moving
direction" with the ST4 control panel buttons, and bingo, nothing happened. I
could move it with my hand controller, and tried putting the ST4 directly to
the
drive, taking out the "y" cord, and still no movement in this direction.

I've read about "sticky relays", but not one that isn't closing. Is this
something that can easily be checked by me? I have multimeters, etc. The
shame
is that it's the best night in about 6 months, and I've wasted it (I'm doing
some wide field shots right now so it isn't a total waste I guess). I know I
should have been smarter and having noticed that it wasn't moving at all in
that
direction, suspected a relay, but being that the ST4 is basically new, I guess
I
just didn't think about it. :o(

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. It's under warrantee, but I
really hate to waste this dark period. If there is an easy way to check if
the
relay is just sticky, or shot, and a new one is easy enough to put in, that
would be great. Or I suppose there's that "relayless mod" that I remember
reading about at someone's site.

TIA

Scott B.
