Re: [APML] A Southern Gem--modified: floodlights at Ayers Rock?
The flood lights (I should have been clearer) are the street lights that
are in the resort complex. The same sort of thing that you find at most
resorts. They are not true floodlights, and the resort is about 12km
from the rock. It is also nestled in amongst some hills so a thirty
minute drive will put them west of where you are shooting. None of the
highways have lights!!!
The hotels in the resort are about eight or nine stories high from what
I remember, if you check the Oz tourism pages you should be able to see
photos.
The rock is only one of many places in the outback where you would be
able to find accomodations. There are several hotel/motels along the
Sturt highway in rather remote places. And there is always Alice Springs
which also features a large no fly (airplanes) zone due to a "listening
post" facility operated by a large unnamed country with the permission
of the Aussies.
The outback skies are stunning and the few large towns are generally
under a thousand households.
