Hello APML:
     I might have missed something in the thread, but if you are using your Nikon
with a T-ring on the telescope, why not drill the T-ring and not the camera?  This
would eliminate the fear of damaging the camera and still allow for a dry Nitrogen
atmosphere in the camera.  I do not use a nitrogen nor argon purge, but have read
that others on this list have used the T-ring method successfully.
