Hi Jim;
my old Losmandy mount has a Byers drive (7.5"), but I do not know if it
would work on the newer mounts. On my old mount,t he drive gear is at the
end of the RA shaft, whereas the "newer" mounts from Losmandy have the worm
drive next against the dec shaft. Don't know if it would be easy to fit a
byers gear in there at all.
However, two points;
1) - it is very easy to phone Scott and ask him yourself - he is quite
approachable;
2) - although the G-8 has only a 3" worm drive, it is a very accurate
drive for it's size.
take care
