[APML]: Starfinder Optimization...

Hi guys,
i'm from Italy, and since 1994 i look at the skies with a Meade Starfinder
10" (the old one, with 220V a.c. RA motor);
now i decided to try some astrophotography and so i'd like to optimize the
mount with some RA and Dec correction device, but i don't want to spend too
much money on it because i'm thinking to buy a better telescope once i learned
enough on astrophotography (yes, it should happen during this lifetime...)!
Is there anybody that already did this kind of job and can give me some 
suggestion ?
I use to make simple electronic circuits layouts (boards) by myself, so if 
someone has circuits for RA and DEC drive correction it will be very useful
(also suggestion on better motors to use, etc.)
