The short focal length Canon "L" lenses blow away the Nikon comparable
focal length lenses.
The long telephotos, the 300mm, 400mm, 500mm, and 600mm by Nikon are very
good, but the Canons used to be noticeably better in these focal lengths
too.
I haven't star tested the new Nikkors with the silent wave motors.
In my experience, lens for lens, at least in the ones that I've tried for
astrophotography, including the non-"L" Canons, the Canons are better than
the Nikons.
