This is not a thread_grin
Some years ago, another un-related magazine, I won't name them but they
focused on cars and drivers mostly, were busted (if that is the
appropriated term) for doing exactly that.....loading up an evaluation
in return, that equipment manufacture had huge ad spreads either in the
same issue or the next months issue. As you may know, there is a power
page in magazines, the page on the right. If a magazine is guilty of
loading up an evaluation, you will know by looking for the ad of that
manufacturer on the power page. If not in that issue, which is not as
likely these days, in an not too diatance issue. Ads are display and
configured for memory. They rely on you to remember them when you buy.
More so than trying to entice you to go buy. So the ad does not have to
appear in the same issue as the eval.(that is now an obvious tactic) but
it will appear soon. Yes it is a way of life in alot of magazine these
days unfortunately, looking at Meade's four page spread, located in the
same section of S&T each month will tell you somone is spending alot of
cash to get the Meade name out there. By being in the same place, and
huge, it will more than likely reside in your mind when you start
looking for a new scope. How many LX200's are out there now. If Meade
did not use that ad space, who would? Celestron? I worked as a
photojournalist for quite awhile, and magazines were constantly being
accused of simply rewriting ad campaigns. Their survival depended upon
it. Someone at Meade is spending a lot of money at S&T.
