[APML] Presbyopia and Fine Focus
Hi All,
Rather than wearing bifocals I've opted for two different pairs of
glasses. One is for general use and seeing distant objects and I can
actually see things like small print quite clearly if I just hold it out at
arm's length. I "had" only been "near-sighted" since age 12, but now I've
got that "Presbyopia" thing going on for the last 2 or 3 years. It is bad!
My other new second pair is recommended for reading and seeing things
"close-up".
So which pair should I wear for the most precise focusing by eye?
I figured the "close-up" pair, which I did use, but haven't got the film
developed yet, since I believe I'm actually looking at a star's image on the
focusing screen and it is very "close-up" and even magnified 3x by my right
angle viewfinder.
But then I wondered am I actually looking "through" the scope at a distant
object and the image on the screen is just an image of this very distant
object.
And here's the REAL KICKER, with stars in a dark sky I actually seem to
see them better and sharper just looking around the sky, but in this case,
it's actually while wearing my "close-up" pair!!!
I suppose I could waste several hours by goofing up one of two sets of
stackable exposures, but I'd rather just ask those who already have dealt
with the "Presbyopia" thing here. "What a drag it is getting old" as Mick
sings in my head!
The real answer is to get a Hutech knife-edge but I'm thinking twice now
about further investment in film equipment. My general plan is to shoot
film for the rest of this year (at least) and then probably switch to a new
modified DSLR.
There used to be a real sharp ophthalmologist or optometrist here. He
would be great to hear from again on this subject and especially why I
"seem" to see stars in the sky better with the "close-up" pair. Man it is
hard to get used to this entire eyesight thing!
Thanks Very Much In Advance (TVMIA),
Jim Vineyard
(I'm 117 messages behind, but I'll catch up, and anyway I figure nobody has
been discussing Presbeopia.)
