I have just now been working on a shot of NGC 7789 and happened to
stumble onto another method that avoids using curves. It appears to
work, at least on these star cluster shots.
I attempt to use curves to solve all the problems in an image from
color correction to increasing the BG darkness. The latter is what
causes my shots to end up blue (I think).
I think you are right. I think I over-use curves and it is just another
bad habit I've picked up. And I know some folks will swear by using the
curve method but they probably have far more skills than I. I will try
to use levels more instead.
One thing I can promise is that I will never say that I'm a PS expert.
