RE: [APML] The Death of Film Continues
Bear with me here, but the first thing that popped into my head was how Kodak reminds me of the Air Force of the late 80's and early 90s. The Air Force was about to scrap the A-10 Warthog, arguably the best ground fighter ever designed, because it wasn't technologically advanced enough. Like Kodak, the Air Force is big on high technology (well, for this analogy CCD is high technology compared to film). Like film seems to have been lately for Kodak, the Warthog was kind of an embarrassment to the USAF...they wanted stuff that goes whiz-bang (they were going to replace A-10's with F-16's converted to the attack role). Lucky for the A-10, the Persian Gulf war came along and showed how invaluable it was. Grunts on the ground absolutely loved those guys, and if the grunts love a weapon system then it's guaranteed to stick around for a while. Unfortunately for film, I don't see anything analogous happening for Kodak. And unfortunately for Kodak, they've arrived on the digital scene very, very late in the game. I don't know why they never went for the Asian market, where film is still popular.
Cheers,
Jason

Not discontinued......just taken off alot of shelves
here in upstate ny.
It is only showing that they are cutting way back, and
have a less need for film.
We always feel it first here so close to rochester.
That is just a sign of things to come being so close
to Kodak.
Kodak is massivley trying to go digital, and alot of
their choices so far have been the discontinuing of
film, and film realted products.
