Re: [APML] Re: Your message to Astro-Photo awaits moderatorapproval-is this SPAM?
Hi Jim,
Wow, that sure does go way back! I don't remember the exact details of
our discussion, but I do remember a lot of opinions, so I didn't take
anyone's as an insult or anything like that. Not sure what I had at the
time, but I've had all the "crap"- probably an 8" LX-50, 201XT (never got it
working), Meade OAG, yashica cameras, crappy focus screens, standard wedge,
university optics *wired* reticle, you name it... Those things had been
slowly replaced by: a 10" LX200, SBIG ST-4, Lumicon GEG, Nikon F2, 8x Lupe
magnifier, Beattie Intenscreen Plus, SuperWedge (couldn't get ahold of a
Milburn), wireless Meade reticle, even got myself an STI Ronchi focuser, and
a slew of other stuff. Like most astrophotographers, I've spent a fortune
on making mistakes... Here's the URL to a LONG story about that:
http://orchardvalley.net/astro/scope/myscope.html - it's really painful to
read that page!
Anyway, with all that stuff, I'm STILL having problems getting the ST-4 to
focus, lock, etc., long enough to get a decent photo. Like you, I only get
out a few times a season, and to be honest, sometimes I'd just rather sit
there an enjoy the sky rather than getting frustrated trying to get the
equipment and photos to take.
I'd be interested in CCD if I could afford it. It would probably be much
easier to deal with than film, but for how much I do, it's probably not
worth the $$'s for a decent camera. - yea I know, I should have learned the
first time.
I've always kinda been scanning the messages, just haven't had much time to
get into the hobby, and it's painful hearing about how much fun you guys are
having stargazing. With work, the kids, and a busy schedule otherwise, it's
tough getting the time.
So, anyway, thanks for the nostalgia visit! :-)
take care,
Frank
BTW, got another one of these "message awaits moderator approval". Dunno
what it is, but I've just been deleting them. Hope there aren't actually
files waiting to be posted.
Frank
