I actually dropped the saturation from what I had on the scan, sort of a
personal preference but as you say it does jump to life when the
saturation is brought up by 50% or more.
If you had been able to fix the trailed image you would be putting
Losmandy and the other mount manufacturers out of busisness and have a
full time business on your own.  :^)
There were some guys playing around with scanner based drift cams a few
years back where they didn't use a mount and just let the sky drift by
the scope and then correct the image later on. I think the big hurdle
was the lack of sensitivity of the scanner sensors and the plethora of
web cam imagers that came out afterwards.
