RE: [APML] Simple Milkyway Shot

Spotty. I was lucky enough that all but one of the evenings that I went out these past couple of weeks it was clear. The biggest effect was that lights from L.A. and Palmdale/Lancaster could be seen higher up in the sky. I took the shot of Rho Oph that I posted under those conditions. The fire to the north of Palmdale had the whole Indian Wells Valley hazy on Thursday, though. Yesterday I had to go to L.A. and drove by the fire between there and Palmdale while I was coming back. The smoke was blowing north and was about 10-20 degrees up from the horizon as seen from Ridgecrest. Today it looks clear down to the horizon, though. It'll probably be clear into the night since the wind is blowing towards the south today.

Thanks Jason. How was the smoke up that way this past new moon? We went to Cottonwood Springs to avoid the fires and smoke but had a fair amount of smoke anyway from distant fires in San Gorgonio and SanDiego areas. I'll try to keep you in mind the next time we go out. We go to Inyokern about 50% of the time depending on weather.

Nice Milky Way shots, Steve! That darned wind got me the other night, too, so I know how you feel about it :) You'll have to give me a holler next time you guys come up to Inyokern.

Here's one I finally got around to processing from June. It was an
incredibly windy night and I think the only shot that didn't have star
trailing from the wind was this one (probably as it was the only one I did
with the wider 28mm lens).

Comments on processing appreciated.
