Re: [APML] Minolta s/w Vs. Vuescan

I have had a great deal of experience with both Vuescan and the Minolta scan software with my Scan Elite II. The bottom line is this, Vuescan does a much better job with the wide exposure range of astrophotos, the Minolta software loves to clip the histograms of images (esp. negs) and there is no way to avoid it. Many have complained to Minolta about this but there still has been no fix. Interestingly, I often prefer the scans from the Minolta s/w for daylight photos. The Vuescan images are often under saturated...

Subject: [APML] Minolta s/w Vs. Vuescan

I am still learning to drive my Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III scanner but I figured that before I go too far down track I need to assess whether switching to the Vuescan software might be a better option. The Minolta software seems fine to me but I do not have sufficient experience with alternatives to be able form a definitive view.

A search of the archives seems to indicate a general leaning towards using the Vuescan for this scanner though the opinions can be divided. The most recent mention of Vuescan Vs. Minolta was about twelve months ago as well so an up to date view would be good.

It would be appreciated if there are some APML'ers out there that may contribute some information to assist research.

Many thanks,
Rodney Watters
