Eddie,

I use that Minolta scanner with Vuescan and try different settings for
different film and exposures.  Autolevels (under the color tab) usually
works pretty well if you use dark slide film and with a deep enough shot on
neg film the raw scan works ok as well.  For negs I usually use the positive
slide film settings and invert it in PS and get a much better result as
well.  Couldn't match the results with the Minolta software though I'm no
scanning expert.  Hope this helps.
