You are right, Joe. The prices for professional CCDs is quite expensive... 
Most of that brands offer their camera heads WITHOUT the CCD chip at about 
$30K - $40K. Of course, in some cases this CCDs will be more linears and 
will have less readout noise and a higher read speed. But in some cases the 
prices are too much inflated, and sometimes the cameras are an autentic 
disaster. Ithink those amateur brands are important because they are FOR 
the amateur, simply. An amateur doesn't have have the same necessities that 
the professional.
