Everything I've read says that cool red stars far outnumber all other 
types in a galaxy. It seems reasonable that these stars would be 
brighter in the near IR than in visible light so they would record 
better by photographing down to 900nm. The question I have: Is there 
anything of interest between 700 and 900nm besides stars? Any bright 
emission lines? I don't remember any. If it's only stars, then I 
suppose the main advantage of photographing down to 900nm or lower 
would be to record more faint galaxies which I think we've already seen 
in Tony's deep M51. I think it would be okay if those showed up as red 
or red-orange in a color image.
