I also recommend to go a little bit more to the higher end mounts.
Certainly Scott Losmandy has improved this new mount in many respects,
given the huge input he gets from the user community. However, I'd
always be a little bit careful with a totally new product.
AP certainly is fine, however one has to wait for ever to receive a
new mount from them. Afaik Astrophysics currently doesn't accept new
orders for their mounts anyway, check their webpage for more details.
Excellent alternatives are the Millennium mounts (www.millenniummount.com).
I ordered mine two weeks ago and picked it up last weekend. It's truly
a piece of art. The payload is >70 pounds, which IMHO is a very
conservative limit. It comes with excellent ESCAP drives, encoders and
**everything** else one'd like to have. The precision is outstanding, and
it easily outperforms my G11 in any respect.
An even larger version will become available in fall 2002, payload
>130 pounds.
