Re: [APML] Mount for C-14 at a University

I would advise the gent to shy away from anything losmandy and look towards AP. I've never had any luck with Losmandy, and been surprised at the shoddy machining that I have seen when I bought things from them (and returned them later when possible). I know many people really like their G11s, but usually if you dig into the rave reviews you'll find out that they had to put new gears or motors to get to where they could rave about it. Maybe this new mount is totally new and improved, but the picture looks like more of the same

Folks,

Sorry to disrupt the JPEG thing, but I have an APML-related topic :-)  I've been contacted by a local university professor who is looking to put a C-14 back into service.  The C-14 has been mounted on the standard fork mount (I don't know the scope's vintage).  He would like to mount it on a pier and GEM, with the express purpose of performing photometry and astrophotography.  I suspect that his astrophotography may be CCD-based, but let's assume film.

He's proposing using Losmandy's new HGM Titan, info here: http://www.losmandy.com/hgm-titan.html

The mount looks like a great new mount for amateurs, but I wonder if it will be sufficient in a university setting.  Does anyone have thoughts on this?
