I use both.. plus I heat up the camera, field flattener, main mirror,
guidescope and still I inject dry air into the film chamber. My 8" newt
with its metal tube dews up easily.
If you have a large sct (greater than 10"), just heat will not keep it dew
free near the secondary holder ( you could always blast it with 50watts)..
the advantage of removing the dew shield is less sail area to be affected
by the wind, and perhaps you get better stray light baffling with the dew
shield.
