I have attempted this before quite a few times. It is easy for me to
shoot multiple reds since this is the shortest exposure but I have found
that this only helps the red channel. When combined with the green and
blue channel, the lower SNR of these two channels compromises and swamps
the overall SNR of the color image. I did not make any measurements to
substantiate this so it is purely based on my eyes seeing the final
results. To do multiple exposures for green and blue is also possible
but I would have to expose over multiple evenings.
