Re: [APML] moon week

Frank;
    You can still shoot bright planetaries with the moon up and maybe some bright globulars, but not a lot more without filters. A Lumicon Hydrogen Alpha filter blocks most moonlight, but not all films work well this way. Hypered tech pan loves the Ha filter, if you have a fast enough focal ratio. I have also seen some good results with Kodak E200 slide film. When the image is scanned, convert it to grayscale, unless you find beauty in red nebulas surrounded by red stars..... Either technique gives you luminance channels that can be used in a future colour LRGB stack.
    I have a bit of information on using the filters here: http://members.shaw.ca/jmirtle/ha.htm

Subject: [APML] moon week

I always get bummed out when moon week hits, and don't really bother going out then.  How much does the moon affect astrophotography, say there's a crescent or half moon and you're shooting somewhere across the sky?  I assume, since most of the stars are washed out that the photography is also bad...  Is it the same as light pollution?  Can it be filtered?

Just dreaming, I guess.
