RE: [APML] T Point

Take a look at:
http://www.newastro.com/newastro/downloads/default.asp it's a VB program to
automap TPoint.
It makes auto Image-Link to TheSky.
Also check out sbig, ccdsoft and ccd-newastro's user groups on yahoo.
Lots of info. if you search the old msg.
Hopefully CCDSoft's next version will have a adjustable autodark feature for
Image-link (fails more then it should)

You didn't indicate if your mount is permanent or portable which is a
consideration in using this program in my view. I've used TPoint several
times with my MI-250 Goto which utilizes the Gemini system and have it
installed on my field laptops. If you're familiar with the Gemini system
and how it models the mount it's easy to understand why TPoint isn't much of
a time consuming task as the protocol's are similar in conducting star
alignments. TPoint would require additional stars be added to improve the
model which isn't an issue provided you have time. I like the TPoint
modeling and use it when I'm set up for several days at a time, otherwise I
don't generally take time to implement it for a one evening set up; however,
this can easily be accomplished. I can comment that the improvement in
pointing accuracy can be significant from my experience although I never
tracked the results for record to compare. Be advised that it will
compensate for repeatable errors in your system but won't prove too helpful
in flexure, mirror flop or other equivalent issues of this type. I'm not
certain about conducting long TPoint runs in fixed observatory mounts and
how the model is re-instituted night to night.

Does anyone have experience with T point from Software Bisque? I am
expecially interested in how long it takes to set up and its accuracy on
nights subsequent to putting in the initial settings. Thanks for your help.
