Here's my attempt at the two images:

I thought that i4628 was the higher quality image, though the scan settings
were quite far off (the red was very skewed). The second one was scanned
rather better, however either the seeing was worse or the focusing was a
little soft. i4628 is a remarkably good image.
The main thing I did was colour balance correction, with a little
enhancement too. It is much much better if you can, to get the colour
balance right at the scanning stage. If these were scanned at a photo lab
then it is harder to get it right. I used to get my 6x7s scanned by
PhotoCD and gave the lab a set of very specific instructions, including
sample images which had the colour balance set correctly.
