How heavy is the camera?  I use a sturdy Bogan (Manfretto) ball head.  
For up to 100mm FL it works fine.

What are you mounting it on?  You could always just fabricate something
out of wood and then bolt a Losmandy 3-axis mount to it.  This would 
give you a very heavy duty system for 1/3 less than a complete 
Losmandy solution.
