RE: [APML] Schmidt camera survives house fire



Robert, I did go over your whole write up and noted that it is biased toward
the 8 inch.  Do you need some material and photos of a 5.5 inch?

What amazes me is that the corrector survived.  It is only about .060" thick
and it wouldn't take too much heat to crack it.  I think what saved it is
the fact that the camera ended up nose down in the water.  It was raining
hard(heck, it was a major storm!) and the house litterally filled with water
quickly after the roof caved in.  The accumulated water kept some of the
heat off the camera nose.  The mirror really looks pitiful now that I have
it out of the camera.  I'm going to take a picture of the coating and post
it on my web site later tonight. The acid did a number on the aluminizing.
But when I am done, this puppy will be better than it was before the fire.
