Re: [APML] Hypered film-2 month chamber storage- Still good?
I should explain that the reason I tested "old" hypered film was that I had
some in the freezer. My policy up until very recently was to always use
fresh hypered film for AP. Last April when I started a series of film
tests, I ran out of forming gas so I looked in my freezer and found a few
old rolls that for some reason I hadn't used (probably the weather was bad
so I didn't set up for AP).
I was very surprised when I found that hypered PJ 400 gets better with age.
I have compared fresh, 4 month old and 22 month old. The 4 month was the
best, but the 22 month old was second best. These are shown on my web site
at http://home.nethere.net/mpd/FilmTestData/FilmTestData.htm
I have also tested some PPF 400 fresh and 4 month old with similar results.
Now I'm in the process of exploring this phenomena with other films. This
will necessarily take several months because I am out of old film. For
everyone's info, I am testing this effect on Royal Gold 200, a film that
benefits a lot from hypering.
