Yes, I'd like to know that, too! The only thing I can tell you is that
"our" nebulae don't compare to the ones in NGC 300 by any means. The
largest ones to the upper right and the middle left in NGC 300 are
3000 light years in diameter, dwarfing even the tarantula nebula in
the LMC which is 1000 light years in diameter.
M42 is only a few dozen light years in diameter. Would it be in NGC
300, it would appear as a tiny red spot.
NGC 300 is famous for its huge emission regions. Unfortunately they
are not very well shown in this color image, I could upload a b&w
version of the H-alpha channel only in a couple of minutes.
