There may be a market, albeit a small one, but I don't know any
way to do it with only RGB data. You would have to know the
percentages relative to each other of all the emission lines.
RGB doesn't contain that information. I don't think you can blame
this on any image processing program that deals with RGB. :-)
I think your question highlights the fact we're using the RGB
system (color film or B&W film/CCDs with RGB filters) to record
a non-RGB spectrum - emission lines. We need a whole other system.
