Re: [APML]: Best lens manufacturers
All the major camera makers offer fine optics today. The resolution of 35mm
lenses it truly amazing. Third party makers also offer excellent products.
I have personally used Tokina (300mm f2.8) and find it excellent. My own
experience with Vivitar (non-Series 1) and Tamron were less than favorable.
That said, Tamron has made great strides in recent years. I can't speak to
their latest offerings.
I would advise against a teleconverter if at all possible. They tend to
yield mushy images and aggrevate any imperfections of the prime lens. They
also cost you 1 or 2 stops in lens speed. Yes, I have one and I do use it
from time to time for wildlife photography, but for astro work - never.
