RE: [APML]: Alps MD-2300 Printer
Jim,
I'm pretty sure the 2300 IS dye-sublimation printing. The only
difference from high-end dye-sub printers appears to be the use
of a narrow (about 1/2" wide) ribbon and printing in swaths like
an inkjet printer. Check it out at:
http://www.alpsusa.com/md230F.htm
The only very slight flaw I've seen is some banding on some
prints.
Aren't you a member of the Orange County Astronomers? If you are,
and you plan to be at the Friday night meeting, let me know and
I can show you a sample printed by another OCA member (Ted Ishikawa).
On this particular print, there's no hint of banding. The sky
background is a very nice uniform black.

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with the Alps printer?
The research I have done seems to indicate that this printer is very
close to a Dye-Sub in its ability to print almost continous tone images.
Any input would be welcome as I think I am going to purchase one soon.
Clear Skies
Jim
