 Chris, here is a list of its advantages:
 
 1) Light weight
 2) mirror lock-up
 3) all mechanical.....no battery drain to hold open the shutter
 4) interchangable focus screens
 5) can accept accessories like varimagnifier or the newer B&K focuser.
 
 
 There are other cameras that have all of these features and more, like
 removable viewfinder prisms  (many of the Nikon F series),
 but none are as light as the OM-1.
