The Pentax 35 F4.5 is not that terrible of a lens. It's not pinpoint 
perfect that for sure. I've only used it for wide field milkway shots the 
stars on the edges are blobs no question but a bit off center they were 
fine.

The sharpest lens I have used wide open is the Zeiss/Hassey 50 F4 Medium 
format.
