It would make a great wall-sized poster!
Great work!

Subject: [APML] Orion panorama
ALOHA,
Please allow me to call this a panorama,
although it doesn't cover the entire Orion. I went to Mauna Kea last
month and it may be my last time taking astro pictures in recent 2 or 3
years. This image is the primary effort of mine since Dec
2003. Here we go: http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/~wang/misc/orion_01x.jpg
What
you see is a 0.1x reduction of the original image. I'm
still finalizing the image processing. Later (next month?) I
will post a full webpage for this image, including all byproduct
images. At this moment, any comments are welcome. Below are
more details about the imaging and processing.
Images were taken
between Dec 2003 and Dec 2004, in a total of 9 nights. Telescope is
Pentax 105SDHF with focal reducer (F5.1). Camera is Pentax 67.
Film is Kodak E100S pushed 1. Exposure time is 90 minutes.
The final picture contains 22 of such images. 18 of them form a
3x6 mosiac. 4 of them are added onto selected regions to increase
S/N.
As before, the individual images were flattened in my own
program, registered and calibrated in Registar, and combined in
Photohop. There is a short exposure for M42 very slightly
blended into this image. I prefer to keep M42 bright and
almost saturated. I tried not to over-process the nebulas although
the depth of this image does allow a strong enhancement. The
time I spent on image processing is perhaps 2x the total exposure
time. Later I will tell you more details about the technique of
image processing.
Comments are welcome.
