Re: [APML] Sort of OT: New Meade Ritchey-Chretien

For AP, especially for CCD, the Meade SCT issues have not been optical
quality, but the poor tracking performance of the mount (periodic error
and "random" jumps.) As someone who moved from film to CCD in the past
year, I can vouch for the work and frustration involved in getting decent
images even with focal reducers with the LX200 (classic) mount. It can be
done, but not out of the box, and not without work. The first questions
will be regarding the mount quality, I guarentee, and who will blindly
order something of that expense for AP with the history of poor mounts that
Meade has? We'll have to wait and see.

I have a 12" classic LX200, BTW.

Looks cool. Especially since they don't cost $20,000... <g> I hope the
quality of the scopes are better than their smaller SCT's and refractors.
The type of customer their aiming for with these scopes will not stand for
crappy construction and poor optics. We'll see if they really do end up
not
cutting corners.

Hi folks,

http://www.meade.com/rcx400

Don't know if anybody's seen this yet or cares, but I thought it looked
pretty interesting...especially since it's an affordable RC design.
Thought
I'd share since it was apparently designed for the astrophotographer.

Cheers,
Jason
