RE: [APML] computer video card

Hi,

This is about the PC vs Mac issue.

After G5 appeared, I thought it's execellent for image
processing because 1. it's fast, 2. as a 64 bit processer,
it can locate 8GB of memory. The later is especially
important since I'm interested in making large mosaics.

However, I soon realized it's not the case, especially for
the 8GB memory. I went to an AppleShop and talked to
a guy working there. He told me that, the current OSX is
still a 32 bit version. This doesn't matter that much
because the new 64bit version of MacOS is coming soon.
What really matters is, the current MacOS only allows each
application to use 1GB of memory. Even if you fully load
the 8GB memory, PhotoShop can still only use 1GB of them,
which sounds stupid.

I'm not sure if this is true or not. But since I was told
by a person working in the AppleShop, I chose to believe him.
Perhaps somebody with a G5 and >1GB of memory can tell us
whether this is true.
