Re: [APML] OT: Kodak, jobs, and film

Loke and all,

It's impossible for us to predict what Kodak is going to do with their film
business because we don't have their accounting and sales data. However, I
don't see this latest announced action by Kodak as doom & gloom for us right
away. Their film business is still quite substantial, but their overall
future depends on digital. They are on a program to convert their future
into the digital age. They need their film business (the parts that are
profitable) to help pay for their transition over the next couple years. As
a result, I believe that there is a good side for us: Kodak is unlikely to
put any money into changes in their film chemistry (like they did in recent
years with RG200 and Supra400). That means as long as there is a market for
E200 and TechPan, they will remain available and unchanged. Some time in
the future, Kodak will stop making film.

The only way I can see to predict the end for these films is to identify
where Kodak's present market is for these films (who is using them and for
what?) and see if those users are likely to convert to other (digital)
imaging.

So, for TechPan, who are the major users? It's not us, but I don't know it
is.

Don
