Re: [APML] R200SS first light and new website ...

The GP-DX should be a very good match for the R200SS!

Actually, I've had great success in using the smaller GP mount (rated at 7kg
as opposed to the GP-DX's 10kg) together with my R200SS for both traditional
photographing and CCD imaging. You are of course more exposed to wind with
the smaller mount, but with proper balance, good polar-alignment and a
re-lubricated (necessary in the cold Scandinavian climate) and well tuned
mount it's possible to get good results. I.e. I've managed to do 30 minutes
CCD exposures (with a sampling rate of 2.32 arc seconds pr. pixel) with
perfectly round stars using this setup!
Having said that, I would of course recommend the beefier GP-DX for a
R200SS. Both for it's increased loading capacity and it's improved gears. I
would also recommend using a Berlebach tripod instead of the standard
aluminum tripods from Vixen!

Best regards,
Arne
