Pretty neat Brian!
    I have seen this several times over the years but have never taken a
picture. For us, it occurs when we get a sudden temperature drop and
moisture in the air freezes into ice crystals. Under the right conditions,
they can all be aligned or polarized the same direction causing this effect.
Very cool when it happens! Was it cold when you took the shots?
