The wide histogram seems very useful.  Have you tried it yet?

The problem I have in PhotoShop 6.0 is not that the histogram
is too narrow.  In 16 bit mode, the pixel values should be
from 0 to 65535.  However, in PS6.0 Levels or Curves, the 
displayed pixel values are still from 0 to 256, i.e, there
must be 256 hidden levels between every displayed numbers.
This prevents me to do any finer tuning.  I don't know if this
plugin can solve this.

I'm going to upgrade to PS CS.  Do you know if the situation
is still the same in CS?
