Hi Robert.  The Novoflex EOS-to-Nikon adapter (B&H ~$190) is not a 
gimmick.  It is German engineered to high tolerances and finished well. 
  Your friend could manually use the acclaimed 10D or "X"D with any 
Nikon lens.
