Do a web search for the maintenance/reapir manuals for your cameras. I
was able to download the manuals as PDF files for both of my Pentax
cameras. If they are available for Pentax they are most likely available
for Nikon bodies as well. It may let you know if anything may/will fall
inside the camera if you remove the rewind knob.
Also there may be a roll pin on the flip up handle that could also be
romoved.
In any case proceed with caution unless you may be looking to create
either a single shot Nikon or a knife edge focusing body.
