If you are going to develop the film yourself, the simple thing to do is to
cut off the leader and load the film into the camera in the dark. Lay the
film across the focal plane, but not so far into the takeup chamber that it
engages the film advance sprokets. Of course, in the dark, make sure you
cut off enough of the leader that the daylight exposed part of it is gone
and you have fresh unexposed film all the way across the focal plane. Now
you can cock and fire the shutter to your heart's delight without moving the
film. One more thing though, tape over the rewind knob real good so the
film is not disturbed over your year-long exposure series. Good luck!
