For sure it is a good thing to have a heavier tripod. But my guess is
that you are not properly focused in the first place. That could be
because there are too many vibrations, so you could be in a catch-22
situation. The most stable mount you can get and vibration supression
pads are both good ideas.

Get a cable release and/or an air-bulb release (is that what they're
called?), so you don't have to jiggle the camera any more than
necessary.
