Another thing that can happen is beating of
textures in the object with the Bayer array
over the CCD. Different frequencies in the
texture will cause different colors. Not 
saying this is what you have here, but the
only way to be sure would be compare to the
same area imaged with a monochrome camera 
and filter wheel.
